whenever i see a new robot design, on facebook or YouTube, i'm wondering how human it looks. The most memorable bots, for me, follow some of the rules of anatomy. I'm not so much impressed if it has a facial resemblance to a human or it shares the same proportions, but that it follows human anatomy. I guess i like the uncanny, where we recognise something human in what we see but at the same time understand that theres something alien in what we see. I read (somewhere) that people have a natural fear of spiders because insects don't have muscles but instead have a piston like , pneumatic way of propelling their limbs. That's even less human than a robot, and scarier, especially if you replace the spiders body with a human head ( john carpenters the thing 1982)!
