I grew up reading comics. i wasn't really interested in superhero stuff like marvel and dc. i began reading the beano , a british comic, crested and printed in glasgow i think, The Beano contained humorous stories for children and some adults! I found an old copy, in a charity shop, a few years ago. it looked pretty dated in every way. the most popular character was dennis the menace, not the American one, i don't which came first, probably the uk version! Looking at it again, 40 years later and with more knowledge regarding drawing, i appreciated the subtlety of the apparently crude drawing which actually contained very skilled areas of drawing , just enough to hold the compositions together, but at the same time maintaining its anarchic look.
